Garden & Cooking After School Class | Mondays, Fall 2024 | Arts & Letters United 305

$450.00
sold out

Class meets Monday, September 16 to December 16, from 2:40-4:30pm

We will walk the children to the garden and pickup is at Starts of Hope Garden on Madison at 4:30pm (let us know if you child needs to be walked back to school).

This class is for 3rd to 5th graders at Arts & Letters 305 United in Brooklyn, New York.

Students will receive twelve interactive workshops in the garden and kitchen as part of the Upper Elementary School Garden & Cooking Club. Their garden experience begins with orienting students to the space, creating a shared understanding of expectations, and teaching them fundamental gardening, food preparation, and basic cooking skills. They then explore a number of food and garden subjects, including soil composition, flower biology, pickling, medicinal herbs, food safety and preparation, and more.

Kids will learn to grow basic edible plants, and how to prepare simple and healthy dishes. The best part? They will learn the language and skills to share what they’ve learned with their friends and family.

All children will receive journal notebooks for the semester and supplies to complete each lesson, as well as reusable glass jars and food to take home.

The fall semester will end with a shared school feast grown and cooked by our class!

Class mostly meets outside, with a tented area in case of rain.
